Meet Grandma Betty

On 10/22/24, Betty Jane Walston was born in Albuquerque, NM.  She was born to Lunette Bowles  and Leron Walston.  She lived at 121 Stanford Lane, which was then a dirt road. This little neighborhood was very close to the University of New Mexico.  The house still stands today, I have visited it a couple of times.  Grandma's parents didn't stay together too long, and her father died when she was only about 6-7 years old.  Lunette and Betty relocated to Glendale, CA. and she grew up there for a bit.  Great Grandma Lunette (Jackie) was busy trying to find her next husband.  Grandma Betty moved in with her very best friend Rita so that she could stay and finish high school.  She graduated from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, CA.  Shortly after graduation, Grandma Betty and Great Grandma Jackie moved to Long Beach, CA.  It was here that she met Robert Blaine Proper, my Grandfather.  This photo is of Grandma Betty and Rita. I'm guessing that they were about 19-20 in this photo. They were both 5'11' tall!  Grandma Betty is on the right.  I don't think that I ever saw her wear a dress or skirt...Only in her wedding picture.
